Cannot See Photoshop PSD File Thumbnails in File List

Hi,  I am sure that once upon a time when I browsed to folders containing PSD files I could see the thumbnails of the preview Photoshop stores with the files.  I can't see them now. In In Filters>Configure Filters I had only Show Image Files checked.  If I choose Show All Files I see the PSD listed and a Photoshop icon where I would expect to see the thumb, but can't view the thumb.

In Photoshop CS3 I have Image Previews = Always Save and Maximize PSD and PSB File Compatibility = Always.  I can see the Photoshop preview thumbnails in ThumbsPlus Pro 7.

Any ideas why I'm not seeing the thumbs?  Thanks - Dave

I don't work with Photoshop, but it sure sounds from the above like there should be thumbs there to display.  Although do make sure there isn't another option in CS3 to save thumbs as something separate from the above.

Anyhow, you might try with the various thumb-related options in ACDSee under Tools->Options->File List.  You might need to select images and run Database->Rebuild Thumbnails after changing those options.

Hi Marc, I've been through Photoshop's preferences over and over and can't find anything else related to its generating previews/thumbnails.  In Photo Manager 10 I tried Database>Rebuild Thumbnails and Metadata, but nothing at all happened when I made the choice.  No hard drive activity.  Nothing.

I have a newer PC build sitting behind me and it occurred to me to see how PM10 and TP7 behaved on that machine.  It's the same.  ThumbsPlus (SP2) sees the PSD preview fine, while Photo Manager 10 doesn't see it at all.

I'll appreciate any other ideas you, other mods, or users come up with.

    Thanks - Dave

Is, perchance, IDE_PSD.apl unchecked in Plug-in settings?  (Tools>Plug-in settings)

    Sam,

Hmm..., we may be on to something!  In Tools>Plug-in settings>Image Decode, only IDE_ACDStd.apl appears.  In C:\Program Files\Common Files\ACD Systems\PlugIns2 these files appear:

    ContactInfo.chm
    HHActiveX.dll
    PX_Prints_Gifts.apl

PM10 is installed in C:\Program Files\ACD Systems\ACDSee\10.0.  Should I be able to find IDE_PSD.apl on the Web site?  I searched the KB and couldn't find it.

    Thanks, - Dave

Stretching my knowledge here but note the following:

    1.  I am on 2.5 and don't have v10 loaded but I think the apls are the same

    2.  I have the 3 files you mentioned in the same place as you but 75 other files as well - apls.

    3.  In that folder with total of 78 (3+75!) although many apls are listed, IDE_PSD.apl does not show but it might be because that extracts from the adobe ipl which is listed - don't know.

    4.  Knowledge Base suggests delete the folder C:\Program Files\Common Files\ACD Systems\PlugIns2 and then re install your software

You need to first select the images for which you want the thumbs rebuilt.  Watch the lower right area of the status bar - you should see evidence that it is working.

I think I'd better install PM 2009.  I already purchased it.  Time to bite the bullet.  Thanks,
