Cannot process selected file - Read-only media (CD/DVD)

One of the methods I protect my RAW images is to record them to optical media (Read Only) as soon as possible.  Then I process them with ACD See Pro (2.5) to generate the finished pictures for my clients.

ACD See Pro 3 (Beta Build 200) is not allowing me to do this.  Each time I try to process an image on CD or DVD I am present an error - Cannot process selected file.  This occurs on RAW and JPG files; I haven't tried other formats yet.

I have turned off "Save a copy of the original file".

AFAIK all media that is written to a CD/DVD always have  a "Read Only" attribute. This is to preserve the file in its original state, and does not,or should not allow editing or changing of the original. Any images I have on a CD/DVD , are all "Read Only", and will not let me change/edit anything, (even in 2.5) unless I move it to another medium, such as a HD/EHD.

Files that are on a disc drive/harddrive/EHD can be edited and resaved as another file, and do not have the Read Only attribute set.

So if you wish to edit any files, do so on the HD/EHD, and then save to a CD/DVD. Not the reverse.

I do not think this is a "bug", as I would want ACDSee to preserve my "Original" as well as my "Edited" version of the file, and to warn me of such, with the "Cannot Process File" error.

The images on the optical media are read-only, absolutely - I mentioned that in my post.

In ACD See Pro 2.5 (and prior versions) I could initiate the processing of these [read-only] images from this source, then save the resultant image to writable media of my choice (such as my hard drive or network drive).

ACD See Pro 3 is not allowing me the opportunity to initiate processing and save to an alternate location.  If this is by design, then it is a poor feature; Removing functionality that was in prior versions is a poor move.

I have the same problem. I imported some pictures from CD/DVD  to the HD. Then I could not processing the files from the HD. I got the same massage  - Cannot process selected file -. Is the files read only even if they are on the HD?

Sometimes when copying from CD/DVD to a writeable drive (HD, network, thumb) the Read-only attribute will follow.  Have you checked the files and removed the read-only attribute?

  • As I understand it, when you process a Raw file in Pro3, the program tries to save its parameters file in a "[Developed]" sub-folder. (This is a change from how Pro2.5 worked.) If the file is on a CD, Pro3 won't be able to create the sub-folder or write the file. I don't understand, though, why this should stop Pro3 processing a read-only file on the HD.

Thank you - delphineous - . The files was read only, and I only had to take away the attribute on  "read only"

The Release Notes - which I confess to not having read before this morning - mention inability to process files in excluded folders as a known limitation of this beta release.

I might assume that the fact that something is mentioned here means it is a known issue that they intend to address, but who knows.  If your CD is excluded from the db (as I believe all removable media might be by default?) that could explain what you are seeing.  If your CD is not excluded, then this could be a different issue.  One that kind of makes technical sense given that Pro 3 tries to create Developed folders under the current folder, but definitely one that I'd like to see addressed, too.
