Batch Rename problems with %

I have batch processed a set of photos and renamed them adding '85%' to indicate that the JPEG quality of 85% has been used.  Typical filename: 2007-10-01 07-23-52 [Canon EOS 350D DIGITAL] BP 85%.JPG.

Carrying out a batch rename to remove the 'BP 85%' results in the filename: 2007-10-01 07-23-52 [Canon EOS 350D DIGITAL] BP 85L].jpg85%%%%%.

I know that '%' is a special character but ACDSee did allow me to rename my photos with this character.

Has anyone come across this before?  Have a solution?

The only solution I have found is to use another piece of software to rename the files.  I have proved that Dowloader Pro from Breeze Systems will rename the files without problem (I successfully use this software to download photos from my camera memory card).   However, I would prefer to use ACDSee.

I just tried it and it works.  This is what I used.

    <File Properties:Filename (w/o extension)>[Canon EOS 350D DIGITAL] BP 85%

Did you choose the option "(w/o extension)"?

Turn off the template and then use search and replace.  Search on 'BP 85%' and replace with nothing

Thanks for your replies.  I should have said that I used Search and Replace, replacing 'BP 85%' with nothing.  The template is turned off.  The new name of the file in the preview pane shows the problem I am experiencing.  I am using build 335 running on XP.

Tried doing what you had done a some test data and for 3 or 4 tries, both 2.5 and 2009 crashed when I tried to change the file with % in the name.  Eventually 'persuaded' 2.5 to rename and every option I could think of led to similar problems you have found.

Incidentally, Windows explorer allows you to rename an image with % in the title, so it's not really the fault of ACD products which 'graft' on to explorer.

The only way I could do it was to edit the image back to normal with explorer but I suppose any software that does not have an 'explorer' view would work successfully.

I will report this to ACD Sys but I suspect it's not really a bug per se.

Could you explain this a bit more.  I tried this and it still produced the same result

Thanks Sam.  Nice to know that I'm going mad!

Although Explorer and ACDSee allows '%' to be used in the filename, ACDSee is unable to handle this character when renaming.  Should be an easy fix, simply handle '%' as any other character not as one with special characteristics.  Suspect that the ACDSee code is treating '%' as a special character hence the problem seen, although it is the filename.

    1.  Highlight the images you want to rename.

    2.  Tools, Batch Rename....

    3.  Ensure Template Tab is selected

    4.  Highlight Template

    5.  Click on "insert metadata"

    6.  Expand File Properties

    7.  Click "Filename (w/o extension)"

    8.  Click OK

    9.  Click in template box.  Click a second time to ensure cursor is at the end

    10.  Add the "BP 85%" suffix

    11.  Click Start Rename

    Currently using build 358.

You appear to have things back to front.  The original filename has 'BP 85%' and I am trying to remove it but finding that ACDSee can't cope.  Thanks for your interest anyway.
