Batch rename glitch...

Just started using 2.5 Pro over ACDSee 10. I have been noticing a constant batch rename glitch. When renaming files for the first time there is never any issues. When renaming that set again, the glitch appears.

I rename files and use the "#" for number sequencing. So for example, these are how I name files.

MountainPass·Rockies·001.jpg, MountainPass·Rockies·002.jpg so my template would be MountainPass·Rockies·###.jpg and starting at 1. This is fine the first time I rename files newly added files. Then if I say want to change the naming or add a new file and then rename the whole set with the newly added files the batch rename will NOT sequence in the "#"s. If I type a 1 so that I want to start the sequence there, the renaming preview box will show all my pictures to have the same name  like this:

    MountainPass·Rockies·001.jpg

    MountainPass·Rockies·001.jpg

    MountainPass·Rockies·001.jpg

etc...and then the renaming conflict comes up. If I type a 2 it all the files would be 002s etc. Very weird. The way I get around this is that I do the renaming conflict resolver where it puts a hypen and sequences it, then when I go to batch rename again it works properly.

Thanks for any help, I'm sure this is a glitch and hopefully will be resolved with the next few updates, but very annoying to have to rename things twice.

    Thanks!

I'm having trouble understanding exactly what you are you trying to do - what names you are starting with, what the the first batch of new names looks like, why you want to change them further, and what the second batch is supposed to look like.  Most likely there is another way to do whatever it is you are trying to do.  For instance, if you're happy with the numbering you already have after the first rename, you could use the search/replace tab of the batch rename facility to only alter some other part of the file name.  You can also use both the template and the search/replace to do both operations at once - perhaps saving the need to do two renames at all?

I gather your reason for the secon rename has something to do with adding new files to the same folder, but why change the names of the existing files?  That seems, well, like something you probably shouldn't be doing.  Or maybe you are just redoing the whole folder expecting that the existing files will end up with the same names they already had, on the assumption you haven't removed any from the originally renamed sequencing?  Still sounds like not a very good idea to me.

Anyhow, when I try to run batch rename multiple times, I always get the numbers exactly as I expect, so it must be something specific about what you are doing that causes it to behave as you are seeing - I just can't figure out what it is exactly.  Which is also why I want to udnerstand better what you are trying to do.
