    Hi

Could someone confirm that the ACDSee function " Database backup " only backs up the database and not the images ?.

If that's the case then is there another ACSSee function to backup the images ? .

Or do I rely upon my normal data backup that includes the images etc ?

    Thanks
    Zane

    Hi,
Yes, the database backup only backs up the images.

ACDSee does have another functionality that backs up the images & it's called sync'ing (synchronizing). That would be similar to the manner that you're backing up your image files now (making a copy of them somewhere).

I believe you mean, only backs up the database. Although there is an option in the dialog box that comes up that allows it to also back up the images themselves. I don't really think much of that idea, and I know some have expressed difficulties getting it to work properly, but the option does exist. Still, I would rather use Sync or any other simple copy method to back up my images separately from the db.

    Hi Marc,
I was just looking at it - and I don't think there's any implication that it backs up the actual file itself - other than the thumbnail.

I have not got v10 loaded at the moment (too many versions on my beast) but v9 does allow image backup

That's a separate option. the first set of radio buttons (Do not include thumbnails, Include thumbnails for offline files, Include thumbnails) controls whether thumbs are backed up. The next check box (Backup files of type, with the radio buttons that follow) controls whether the files themselves are backed up as well.

The first page on the backup wizard allows you to select

"backup files of type" - "image" - "all files of specified type from..."

Doesn't that mean the images are included in hte backup ?

yes, if you check the backup files of type -- image, then your images will be backed up.
I recommend only doing it with this method if you image collection is small enough to fit on one or two DVDs or if you have space on a separate drive for the backup and images.
If your collection is large, I would suggest coming up with an a different method of backing up your images.
