AVI date sort

    Hello ACDSee community:

I've come upon a minor setback with organizing my photo/video library with ACDSee. Please help.
After having finally organized all of my JPEG files chronologically in my ACDSee database I noticed that all of my MPG/AVI files were all allocated to the "Unknown Date" group. But I was hoping that ACDSee would allow me to view my video files (MPG/AVI) in chronological sequence with my JPEG files when browsing. But since my MPG/AVI files are apparently chronologically disconnected with their same-day / same-event corresponding JPEG files I cannot seem to accomplish this.

It seems that every MPG/AVI file has a corresponding JPEG file (created by my camera) which does have correct EXIF time/date metadata (which my canon camera gives a the same filename as the MPG/AVI file ... i.e. MVI_XXXX ). Perhaps ACDSee provides a way to link the MPG/AVI file with the corresponding JPEG? Any Suggestions?

Technically this is not possible. When you take a picture with your camera the exact date/time of that moment is recorded with the file in the header of the jpeg after a standard called Exif.

The AVI format does not support those Exif information so initially all you AVI files will have a date of creation (which is about as good) but as soon as you edit them copy them import them from your card to the computer this date may be edited and will then represent the copy date.

This would mean that your jpegs and avi's are out of line datewise. This is not an ACDsee problem but a general problem.

ACDsee is able to create XMP sidecar files for your avi's. XMP is a meta data standard like Exif to store additional file information.

If you want to get your jpegs and avi's back in line you could write the exif date from a file taken on the same date when the video was created and write it to the XMP sidecar of the avi.

You can do this by... well actually I just tried ti figure it out but I'm not 100% how to set this date in the XMP sidecar.

Could someone shed some light on how to do this?

You need to show the thm sidecar in the advanced filters then you can alter through normal methods including batch set info
