I installed PRO 3 a few days ago. I have been using PRO 2 and 2.5 since they went out, and was very comfortable. When running Batch Set Information in PRO3 to update some IPTC tags, like I used to do with Pro 2.5, ACDSEE fails to update the tags of about 5 to 10% of my pictures, I get the pop up messages warning me that ACDSEE failed to update some files (I get the list of files).   When the batch process ends up, the thumbnails of the pictures it did not update are replaced by the ACDSEE icon...and the actual jpeg files are deleted from the hard drive. I never experienced this kind of issue with PRO2 or PRO2.5.

I have about 50,000 pictures, mostly jpeg, I usually update then by batch of 50 to 100 max. The pictures that PRO3 deleted have nothing noticeably different from the ones it did update: same camera, same format, same type of batch update, same kind of EXIF information, nothing really different...

Am I the only one with this kind of issues?

    Hello Eric,

let me ask you this question but don´t get me wrong in the first run. Did Acdsee really delete those files or are you just not seeing them in Acdsee anymore?

There are two feature in Acdsee that come to mind when reading your description.

    1. Non destructive editing

    2. The quarantine feature

Is it possible that Acdsee quarantined those pictures or moved them into an Acdsee backup folder or did they just disappear from your drive?

    I´m curious to know

    Best wishes

I have not been able to clearly identify what triggers the script to fail, and the files to be physically deleted...

    thanks for your reply.

The files actually disappeared from the drive. I have been thinking of quarantine also, but they are not there. They are not in the Windows trash neither. I tried some "Undelete software" to try to recover them, and they did not find any track of these deleted files...

Fortunately, I have always been keeping a back up of my original untouched untagged images, so I have been able to restore them. After restore, I reran the "Batch set info" script, and it went through properly!

Actually, I just found a DBErrors.log file generated by ACDSEE at the time I had the issues. It talks about a write failure in the database, with a reference to one of the pictures that were deleted yesterday

What would be the proper way to forward this to the developers? is it via this forum?

Not via the forum but through Customer Support.

When you say you installed Pro 3 a few days ago, do you mean the product version, or the beta?  If the beta, then this might be something that has been fixed.  I never saw an issue like this with with the beta, though, nor have I yet in limited experience with the product.

Assuming there is a problem here, one thing to try is hunting through the temp folders ACDSee uses.  In a previous version (Pro 1, maybe?), Batch Set Information wrote a new copy of the file to a temp folder, then copied (not moved!) the file into place from there, leaving tons of "litter" in the temp folder.  That bug was fixed long ago, but it's possible it's still using the temp folder, and you might find usable versions of your files there.

    Marc,

I installed the product version, not the beta. I think I got the download e mail from ACDSEE last Friday, and I installed it right away. I did search through the temp files, as you are suggesting, looking for the missing jpegs. I did not find the pictures, but found a Db error log generated by PRO3, so I will be sending it to the developers.Thank you for your help.
