I just received an e-mail notification of the upcoming Pro 2.5 release in September and I am very glad to learn that this new version will be free to existing customers that own Pro 2. I believe this step back to intermediate releases between the major versions - just as it was handled with the old standard versions 2 and 3 - is a good one and it's definitely more customer friendly than the release policy of recent years. Thumbs up! I am looking forward to the new release and its enhancements and fixes.
    Thanks, ACDSys.

    Hi eclaire,
I am confident that ACDSys will release directions on how to upgrade when the version is finally released. As I understand it there's nothing existing customers can do right now as the e-mail is more of a promotion with a pre-release rebate for new customers.

One thing is interesting for me- is there lossless jpeg editing, including cropping, rotating, perspecive correction etc?

Thank you for posting. I would have totally overlooked it because it came to my spam folder.

A strange thing is that it never has been announced any beta testing of a new ACDSee release, as it was usually done earlier. Most likely it means that Pro 2.5 is a relatively small bug-fix release, and we should not await too much from it. And then, when it's offered for $116 in the e-mail, I suspect that it will not be a free upgrade, and further I suspect that it will not be worth to pay for it...

Well, let's see when it will be released!

For those who have not received the email, new or improved features include:

    New Import feature
    Embed all metadata
    Save your searches feature
    Custom Borders
View more images with support for UNICODE
Restore your originals at any time, for worry-free editing
Create captivating slide shows, now with options for music, pan & zoom, black & white, and sepia effects

All this is from the public email which also clearly states that 2.5 is a FREE upgrade for Pro 2 owners. I suspect that even if you have not had the email, a simple download for upgrade will be made available.

Actually, Pro 2.0 was, as far as I know, the first such public beta.

The list of new features is included in the email and was summarized by Sam. I'd call it more than a "small bug-fix release", but not a "major" one either. The email does explicitly state this will be *free* to existing all owners of Pro 2.0.

So far I've been able to create interesting slide shows pretty consistently and, on one occasion, an endearing one. However, the prospect of creating one that is captivating has really piqued my interest.

Well, at this point we can only guess how the upgrade will be made available to 2.0 users. One easy way would be via inTouch/myACD. I am sure we'll learn when and where the new version is available here in the forum.

    Gae;

I thought I was left off the mailing list too, but I fund the message in my GMail spam folder.....first time a message from ACDSee went to spam. Well, I hope it's the first time <<#EMO_DIR#>/mellow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="mellow.gif" />

A few days ago in another thread, Mark Cosgrove from ACD mentioned September 9.

    I found that post <<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> but he is talking about an update for 2.0 not about the release of a new version <<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

As far as I know, he was talking about 2.5, which *is* indeed an update for 2.0, not a "new version" per se.

That adds nothing to the mix other than an expression of your opinion
