by the way: a good old friend has survived all bugfixing: "ACDSee has encountered an error & will close". i wonder why this old and widespread bug is still there and not fixed. the workaround with deleting catalog-data does not work.

I'd say because that message surely doesn't identify one single bug - it's a generic message that can probably be triggered by 100 different problems. I'm guessing 50 of the old ones were fixed, and 25 new ones introduced. All numbers completely made up, of course, but you get the idea. I have no actual insight into the development of ACDSee in particular, but tht's about how it has gone in every software project I have been involved with - it's just the nature of the beast.

yes, a generic message with no facts at all involved.
i wonder where users can look up some textfile about reasons why acdsee crashes. the error-message occurs when acdsee catalogues a folder with tifs at my external harddisk. i try to figure out what file sends acdsee to a shutdown.walter
