  • I have the same experience. Every time i try to edit images it crashes. Lot of unexpected crashes. andd all my folders get swamped with tons of acd.xmp files. Its really annoing having them clutter my foldesr and desktop. Win XP. ACD SSee Pro 2 was much more stable and didnt make all these xmp. files. What are they? are they made because of the unexpected closing? can I delete them?

The XMP files are the result of the embed metadata operation ACDSee does on closing if you approve it.  For most image file formats, the info gets written directly to the files, but for formats that don't support embedded XMP info, then sidecar files gets created.  You can tell ACD not to generate these sidecars via Tools->Options->Database - turn off the option that mentions sidecars.

As for crashes, it of course would help if you can narrow it down to a specific set of steps on specifics files that will always make it crash the same way, then if you could post the file in question, others could try to reproduce the problem.

As it is, all I can do is suggest backing up your db, optimizing it, rebooting, and seeing if that helps at all.

What about crash issue when I use ACD Device Detector and connect my camera on. Device Detector prompts correctly if I want to download pictures from my camera. I press OK and then "...has encountered system error and will be closed..."

    I uninstalled 2.5 re-installed and same result

I've had these problems ever since the original build of ACDSee Pro 2. I love the software, but I have unexpected crashes all too often. It happens with JPEG images, RAW images, working on a single image, or batch processing several images. I've uninstalled the software, deleted all the original source files in all folders, reinstalled the software fresh, and have used every build up until this current build. It's really frustrating. It just comes up and says, "ACDSee Pro has encountered an error and will close now.

I've defragged, scanned for corrupt files, updated my Windows XP SP2 to the latest drivers, etc. It's happened with two different ATI video cards.

No solutions. I have to put up with it.

    Hi,

2.5 (build 335) crashes (freezes), when I browse pictures in fullscreen and want to delete the actual picture by pressing the delete-key. That worked fine in all former versions.

So, I have to use the Windows XP Task Manager to kill the application.

    Regards form germany

    Stephan.

  • I too am having problems. After running the 'catalogue' process I went to view some thumbnails and I got the dreaded 'system error' message and ACDSee 2.5 closed down. I am using Windows Vista and have 2Gb RAM. It is the second time I have had this problem.

I have 2 PCs, on XP and one Vista.

    Vista

On my Vista PC, Acd 2.5 has random crashes with the 'program will close now' error, usually within first few seconds after starting up, but after relaunching, it's ok. Then there is a 2nd category of error in which another window pops up to indicate 'run-time' error.  Generally, after the first time it crashes, after relaunching, it doesn't crash again.

another strange thing is that when i hover over images in the file browser, the pop-up of image works infrequently, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

    XP

On my XP PC, Acd 2.5 runs perfectly. Everything works perfectly.

I don't think its a qn of XP v Vista, but probably my Vista PC has some other software or driver installed that Acdsee doesn't like. Not sure exactly what it is? Could it be CaptureOne with its resident phaseone media dectector or...?

Same problem for me, under Vista Home Premium, Intel Core Duo 6600 2.4Ghz, 2GB,

ACDSee Pro 2.5 (version 335) refuses any service, be it when installed over version 2.0 or, after complete cleaning of the registry, as stand alone program!

ACDSee Pro 2.5 can't find ANY EXISTING database (message:database not accessible).

ACDSee Pro 2.0 has NEVER been a very stable piece of software, but these 2.5 upgrades (332,333,335) are a real DESASTER!

Will we have to wait for release 444 ???

By the way: the ACDSee 'Cleaning Tool' DOES NOT REMOVE ANY RECORD from the Registry !!!!

The only current solution is to go back to the unstable version 2.0

NB: my machine is in perfect software and hardware condition, no other program shows any problem!

Seems like either something went wrong during installation, or else the db is corrupt, or else there is a file in the folder that ACDSee is starting up in that is causing it problems.  I'd try to figure out which of the three is the case.  First, by taking your starting up folder and moving everything out of it (into a subfolder, perhaps) and seeing if ACDSee will start up then.  If so, then it must have been something in that folder, and we could progress from there.  If not, then try renaming your db folder (usually found under \Users\<youname>\AppData in Vista - not sure what your configuration is like, though) and seeing if ACDSee will start then.  If so, then we know something is wrong in the db, and we go from there.  If not, something must be wrong with the installation itslef, in which case I'd suggestion uninstalling and reinstalling.

Does this happen no matter what folder you start up in, or just in some folders?

I have downloaded the 2.5 trial and have experienced constant crashes while adding watermarks. Have tried the 1st two fixes (reg fix and reorg database) to no effect. The 3rd option (delete database) is a joke. I like the program for final editing, catalogs etc but is there any point in continuing?

    Frustrated.
