"a forbidden to edit" sign in left upper corner of thumbnail

    Hello boys and girls,

I have been a longtime user of acdsee (1999) but in recent years i slowly went to Bridge and Camera raw for image selecting and editing. But now i am testing the acdsee pro 3...

And immediately i stumble upon a problem: one of my datadisks (1,5 Tb Verbatim) has a lot of files and foldsers on it and all of them, including the disk-icon in the filetree, are marked with a "cannot edit" icon in the left upper corner of the thumbnail (see www.renedenengelsman.nl/acdsee.jpg).

The only difference i can find (between disks) is that this disk is FAT 32 and not NTFS formatted. But other FAT 32 are not marked...

Does anyone know what my problem is?

    Thanks in advance!

    René

It seams it is an excluded folder. You can exclude files and folders from the ACDSee data base. Go to Tools > Database > Excluded Folder Settings to adjust your settings.

Personally I exclude most of the computer and have only the disks on which I work with images on included in the data base. Unfortunately you can only exclude from data base. It would be easier to do the opposite – chose what units should be included.

Thanks Dand! I tried but it didnt do the trick... Maybe the fact that i dont use ACDsee to import or as a database has something to do with it? When i tried to catalog the disks (i never did but if it helps...) this particular disk is not available. I see it but it doesnt have a checking box so i cant choose it for cataloguing.

Does this jog your ACDSEE memory?

    Thanks!

My guess is that the disk with the images is an optical disk. That being the case you can not edit any images as ACDP can not write back to the disk. You may also have it excluded from cataloging. My advice would be to copy the images to your hard disk and edit them from there.

When you say you tried checking the Excluded Folder Settings but it didn't work, what exactly did you see, and what did you try?  Was the drive listed as excluded and you removed it form the list, or was it not listed in the first place?  Was the option to "always exclude removable drives" checked, and if so, did you uncheck it?

    Hi Marc,

First of all thanks for your thinking!

This is what i see when i go to Tools/Database/Exluded files: www.renedenengelsman.nl/excluded folders.jpg

The option "always include removable disks"

I checked boxes/restarted ACDSEE and uunchecked boxes and restarted ACDSEE and again... no result!

Any chance the files/folders are marked as read-only?

Sounds like we're all stumped here then.  I'd contact support.

I have the same problem only on my "home" computer (XP), very frustrating. Treats the EHD files same as C-drive files, and they are duplicates.  Office machine OK with virtually same data base.

How does one get in touch with support?

I have the same problem icon and also cannot figure out how to fix.  I import all camera images with ACDSee, plus some editing, most edits in PS3and various plug-ins. so your import issue is not the problem.

Please share with me if you receive a solution.
