(What in case if I got it already rated?) reeka on "Slow Thumbnails" http://community.acdsee.com/forums/topic/slow-thumbnails#post-44718 Wed, 04 Nov 2009 17:51:41 +0000 reeka 44718@http://community.acdsee.com/forums/ Pro 3 generates thumbnails lightning fast on my PC.  Even with large folders containing hundreds of files.  But only with JPG files.  Now that I am starting to work with larger TIF files, I'm experiencing long waits while I wait for a folder with only a few TIFs to appear in the browser.  I've been told that this is not unusual but I am hoping that someone can explain what it is about TIFs that causes this to happen.  My goal, of course, is to find a way to speed things up because, while it is not a major issue now, it will become a real problem as I continue to add more and more TIFs. Since I usually sort them by date, this is something important for me. However, on the Mac version, this feature isn't available, which is a pity. Nor are we given the possibility to change some basic info in the Exif data, like in the Windows version. Something I would also greatly appreciate in AcdSee for Mac would be the possibility to rearrange the pictures in the folder by dragging and dropping them... Now I can just sort them by name, which I find very annoying... Do you plan on improving these features later on...? I wished it was possible to convert on the fly from RAW to JPEG. The improvements in Pro3 make it more and more possible to deal with RAW files and only converting to JPEG on an "as/if needed" basis as Marc has been explaining day in and day out on this forum. Sendpix does do that nicely yet the upload to Zenfolio/Smugmug/Flickr doesn't. It should be so hard to add in a point release. The images scroll left (previous) when I use the wheel to scroll up or down. There has been a lot of interest in this new camera among serious photographers, since it shoots RAW and comes in a very small size.  It uses the same sensor as the new Canon G11, but I don't know if the RAW files are identical.  Both of these cameras are going to be quite popular. I got one today and was sad to see that Pro 3 does not support the RAW files.  It might be a chance for ACD to get a jump on the competition. Before re-installing ACDSee, the program had been working wonderfully.  It made me wonder if I had any residual settings that were causing issues.  I removed ACDSee using AppZapper, and installed it again.  Same problems.  I tried emptying the database as well to no avail.  Hope there is a solution.  I was huge fan on this program on the PC and am excited to have it on my Mac! I loaded the Trial version into a separate directory and found upon executing all the things I do that all my settings remained intact from the Beta version.  Thank you so much for that.  You have no idea how many hours you saved me from having to remember all the settings and having to put them all back together. I can't remember which version of ACDSee I was using when the final version of Windows Vista was released, but it was several months before ACDSee had a version that would work in Vista. I wound up having to reformat my hard drive and go back to Windows XP to have ACDSee working again. I never did get around to reinstalling Vista and have been quite happy with XP in any case. I do want to upgrade to Windows 7, but not if ACDSee won't work.
