(1) Does this make any sense?

Intel GMA X3100

Accelerator in Use: Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family

And apparently I have DivX 9.0

(2) It happened once over the weekend, this time without Random mode being selected. However, I was also able to run through all the images in the folder successfully (in batches), so that would seem to rule out the problem being caused by either Random mode or a particular image or image type (although most are .jpg, there are a few .bmp .gif .png and .wmf images in that folder).

So I guess it's down to a combination of factors.

(3) I also note that slideshow doesn't handle header or footer text correctly, and wraps the text on to a second line, but doesn't do the same with the background. So if [ ] indicates the background, I would get something like this:

[This is the Caption ]
text of the image

Where I'd guess that the background is long enough for the entire text, but the text actually starts a new line in the middle, and the second line doesn't have the background. Most odd. (When I compared v2 I remembered that this simply refused to display a background at all.)

I've now had ACDSee "blue screen" on me twice while running a random slideshow. I can't remember ever having a previous version actually cause a system restart: problems might lead to ACDSee shutting itself down, but not the entire system.

I'll try it again at the weekend, but has anyone else had a similar issue?

It seems to happen after about 15 to 20 minutes (i.e. approx 150 to 200 changes), there are about 500 images in the folder, I'm using a single (fade) transition, have a Dell laptop with Windows XP, and I'm using build 335.

If the module that is removed has unstable code, removing it could make the program more stable overall..

True, but this wasn't the case, here.

Changing the handling of a feature, however, is a regular step in developing a piece of software. Some like these changes, others don't.

That's why a conscientious company would have their upgrade software / new version, etc install as a separate program and not uninstall or replace the old program. That way the customer would have the ability to compare and see which works best for them.

Agreed. Normally, I wouldn't mind a new version of a program uninstalling the old version during the install procedure. But seeing all the users with several problems, a separate install would have been advantageous. Plus, I really support your idea of having a real update and a full install instead of having the latter, only.

Sorry - I wasn't declaring war on the slideshow function... and in fact have only used it once.

The comment to remove it from the core app is based upon reading the forum here... there are many stability issues with Pro that pulling something out of it (like slideshow) might help the overall user base.

Just curios, why do you want to set it to "0"? If you want to look at the pictures one at the time you will get the same effect by selecting full screen in the viewer.

I want to control the slide show manually. I use the function for scientific and public lectures and would like to use the transition effects of the slide show.

BTW - the control panel of the slide show in version 2.0 is more useful then in version 2.5.

I may be an antagonist on this one... but I'd just assume that ACDsee drop the slide show stuff completely from Pro.

I think it tends to bloat the code and isn't at the core of what Pro could be the best at... getting, sorting / cataloging, viewing, and basic editing.

Best Slideshow program I've used so far was MemoriesOnTv (http://www.codejam.com/). You can time everything to the second in it. But that's a specialised product and I don't suppose we can expect same kind of funcionality in ACDSee PhotoManager very soon. Unless ACDSee would just buy the CodeJam company? :-)

You are absolutely right, the ability to jump between images is no longer available. We will look at adding similar functionality in future versions.

Removing of the manual control of the Slide Show was a great fault.
The Slide Show of ACDSee is useless now.

:-( :-(

Cheers

Felix,

What video card do you have? Can you describe in more detail what you mean by shudder?

I tried to check out CompuPic Pro, unfortunately I can't get the Slide Show feature to run. Can you name some specific features you like about it?

Regardless of all the technical issues I have always been shocked at how poor the slide show feature is. It is so featureless and boring with poor transitions. Oh and by the way, my video card supports DirectX 9.0c and it shudders for me too.

May I suggest that you look at how good the slide show feature in CompuPic Pro and try to imitate it!
