It's so ironical that when narrowing down on the current folder that ACD keeps searching forever.

Yes, thats really weird.
If the problem were the other way, that ACDSee hangs when searching the whole database.
But this is really strange...

I am experiencing the same issue when trying to search by IPTC Keywords within a folder. When attempting to do a IPTC Keyword search in the Search Pane with 'Search in: Entire Database' option, it works as expected in 15 seconds for the size of my database. It's so ironical that when narrowing down on the current folder that ACD keeps searching forever. Toggling the 'Search Catalog Items Only' option doesn't help. Come on mods. This sounds like a bug. Or are we doing something wrong?

And another note I forgot.
When I do a search for instance for image width, it works fine. Every time. No Problem. The same folder, the same images. Only the search for keywords in IPTC or ACDSee database seems somehow corrupted.

BTW, what should it have to do with images in other folders? The search in the whole database works. But only the search in a specific folder doesnt. But it doesnt depend in what folder I search. It seems like it is a deep problem within ACDSee. Funny enough, the folder I have done the tests with contains only around 100 pictures. So its not like that the folder is to big.

I would rebuild thumbs and meta for your whole image stock, if I were you. Use the image well and select all - it will take some time.

Ok, I have done what you suggested. Took me over an hour. My database contains around 85000 images (~30GB).

Unfortunately it changed nothing.

Take the folder in question and select all images then rebuild thmbs and metadata (dbase menu) and try again.

Ok, here is what happens:

I rebuild thumbs and metadata in that folder. Than tried a search. It worked. I closed ACDSee, reopen it and tried the search again. It works. So far so good, but strangely in both searches in addition to the pics from the folder I got two pictures from other folders as a result of the search. So I tried your suggested method with these two folders. After that, I have done another search in the first folder and ACDSee crashes again. I rebuild thumbs and metadata again, but ACDSee keeps crashing.

Bottom line, I am back at the beginning.

I have the exact same problem as the thread starter.
The search option with in a specific folder works maybe one of ten tries.
And it makes no difference if I search for more than one folder.
Only the search in the complete database works.

I cant believe that such an important feature does not work properly.

This should work if the pictures were actually in that folder, not a subfolder. At least, if you have the "Include contents of folders" option selected in your Quick Search options. There might be a way to get it to search subfolders too, but I ended up just setting up my folder naming scheme so that subfolders of a folder I might want to search start with the same name as the folder. That is, the main folder I might want to search is PROOF. So all subfolders of PROOF are named PROOF_001, PROOF_002, etc.

What is strange is that it will find some photos, but not all of them. I even tried to catalogue all photos all over again with the same result.
I will most certainly use your tip about naming the folders though. :-)

Yes, I were using the "Search cataloged items only" option.

I did not know I could use the Quick Search box like that. Thanx. :-)
But I could not get it to work. I tried:
D:\Documents\arntis\Pictures\2008\Syden\ +keyword1 +keyword2
and
Syden +keyword1 +keyword2
but none found the pictures.

I really dislike the search facility and avoid it if at all possible. Here's how I'd do what I think you are trying to do using the Quick Search box at the top of the browser window:

"foldername +keyword1 +keyword2"

BTW, in the search window, were you using the "Search cataloged items only" option (accessed using the little arrow below the folder list)?

It start the search and and it show "Retrieving information" forever. It uses 50% cpu, even after I press Stop. Exit will not quit the process and I have to kill it.
This is a disappointment. :-(

Hello Arntis,

I'm sorry that you are experiencing these difficulties. I'm not able to solve your problem but could you try to do the exact same search without limiting it to a single folder\subfolder.

Could you please tell me if it works in that case?
