Bottom line is that the photo files are in the directory : C\Users\Zane McCarron\Pictures ( file structure used by Vista)

But "organise - file properties " is saying that the captions etc are appearing under : \Users\Zane McCarron\Documents\Pictures ( being the structure used under XP on the desktop )....but I can't locate the files ?

If I understand correctly, ACDSee knows about your files and their categories and so forth, but thinks they are located somewhere other than where they are (it thinks they are where they used to be on XP). that does indeed happen any time you move files without telling ACDSee, and of course that's somewhat unavoidable when migrating to a new computer with a different OS.

The fix is to run Database->Database Maintenance. After it finishes collecting data, it should show you a folder tree decorated with icons that tell you which folders have files with db info, and which are "orphans" - folders for which ACDSee has info but cannot find the files. You should find the orphan icosn on the folders where the files used to be. Click the highest level one wiht the orphan icon, then hit Change Binding, then tell ACDSee where the files are now. That should do it. Hopefully you can select just one top level folder and be done, but you might have to select folders individually, which would be kind of a drag, because you'll have to wait for the "Collecting Information" each time. But once it's done, it's done.

Hi

Some time ago I think I backed up the photo's and database on from my desktop running XP.

Then I copied the backup photos to new laptop ( on Vista ) and run a restore backup.

The result was the catergories were displayed but the captions were not appearing ?

Then today using the "organize " and a suitable "category" , presto there were photo's with the captions ?. Only problem being that I can't locate the photo's file path identfied in the "File Properties ".

So that's the problem , but how do I fix it ??

Thanks & seasons greeting

zane

I'm aware that
