Hey Marc,

It seems you might be onto something with the EXIF and IPTC tab.

If I look at properties for a typical image, there is an EXIF and IPTC tab, but no data.

If I rename that file, the data appears and sure enough it uploads.

I'll look into the patch and catalog thing.

Cheers Marc

I try to upload a jpg and get the dialogue

"Flickr only accepts the following image file formats:

If you click on the image you are trying to upload and look at the properties window, is there an EXIF and IPTC tab? If not, it sounds like you have the problem where some images whole db info was converted from 2.0 don't get EXIF and IPTC info in the database. For some reason this also causes ACDSee to think they aren't JPEG's at all - thus leading it to refuse to upload them to Flickr.

The solution - if this is your problem - is to install the latest patch release for 2.5. Or, to run Catalog Files on your images to re-read the EXIF and IPTC info.

So, as an exercise I converted a file to gif, that's when ACDSee 2.5 just crashed without explanation.

I'll uess that's related, and will go away once you sort out the first problem.

If I rename the file to jpeg I can upload it using ACDsee.

Now that's a new one on me. Maybe renaming it is another workaround to the problem of the missing EXIF/IPTC info the db? Anyhow, I upload files ending ".JPG" all the time.

Have you tried using any other software (provided by the camera manufacture?) to convert your RAW files to jpg's. Then you could try ACDsee to upload these, that would help determine if the problem lies with the jpg conversion or the uploaded.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for taking time to reply.

As I mentioned in my post, if I use the Flickr web interface it works fine with any jpg - that's the point I'm making!

I use Firefox and I don't have any problems with it - but when I initially setup the Flickr uploader in ACDSee, it was ACDSee that didn't support it - if you flick around the forum, you'll find others who have suffered similar problems.

Graggs,

I don't understand your problem with the browsers, I use Firefox3 as my default browser and when ACDSee (V2.5) finishes the upload, Firefox opens to show the newly uploaded photos without any problems. I have my flickr account set to keep me logged on for a 2 week period to save keep logging on everytime I go to the flickr site.

I have a Panasonic camera which outputs RAW files, I use ACDsee V2.5 to process and convert these to jpg and these upload to flickr without any problems.

I have never had a problem uploading with the JPG extension from ACDSee.

okay cool, but I have ... any idae what I can do about it?

Chippy said:

Nor can I get ACDSee to crash converting to GIF.

That's not what I said, I converted the file to gif successfully, ACDSee then crashed trying to upload it to Flickr - ACDSee crashed without any error, which is a constant critism of your error handling.

Chippy said:

Most image upload sites do not mind wether the extesion is Jpeg or JPG

It's not the image upload site that has the problem, as I very clearly stated, the web interface for Flickr accepts the jpg without a problem, BUT if I try to use the ACDSee uploader it pops a dialogue box saying that....well it's in the thread above.

This so blatantly an ACDSee things, why no answers?

An update to this thread, is that if I open a jpg image in the ACDSee editor and save it as a jpg (without making any changes) I can then upload it to flickr.

So I tried batch processing a file, simply renaming it (from a jpg) to a jpg - yep I know this sounds crazy, but it works. After renaming it using batch processor, it uploads.

Equally, if I resize the image, it will upload.

This makes me wonder if it's something about the original Canon jpg that ACDSee doesn't like (remember the flickr web interface allows these files) and as long as ACDSee saves this file, whether it's resizes or involved in any batch process it uploads.

In fact, it's just occured to me that many of these jpgs are saved from the ACDSee Raw Processing Editor. I've just tried jpg straight from either of my Canons and my wifes Olympus and non of them upload. Everytime ACDSee displays the dialogue mentioned above!

Flickr uploader grief, I've spent hours trying to get this to work, and tracked down some issues. I've been using ACDSee since day one and I use it on a regular basis to view and edit pictures from two Canon camera, using jpg and RAW.

I recently got a flickr account and figured it was time to use ACDSee uploader.

Wrong! Firstly, I try to upload a jpg and get the dialogue

"Flickr only accepts the following image file formats:

JPEG

TIFF

PNG

GIF (non animated)

Images that are not in these formats will not be uploaded."

So, as an exercise I converted a file to gif, that's when ACDSee 2.5 just crashed without explanation. After some time and reading some links here, I did the following:

Changed my default browser to Internet Explorer (from Mozilla Firefox)

Rebooted

Logged into my Flickr account in IE.

Then, and only then was I able to authorise the uploader, until then ACDSee just crashed out. So, I've now authorised, yet I still can't upload jpg files! Apparently they aren't supported - yet, I can load the exact same files using the flickr web interface.

If I rename the file to jpeg I can upload it using ACDsee.

Guys, what's going on?

I thought the idea was to make life easier?

Surely, we should be able to drag anything we want into the image basket and select upload, then ACDsee converts it into a compatible format, resizes it and uploads it?

Why the dependancy on IE, why can't you support other browsers?

Why do I have to already be logged in?

Why isn't this documented somewhere?

What's the solution to my jpeg problem, surely I don't have to rename all my files?
