ACDSee Forums: Recent Posts http://community.acdsee.com/forums/ ACDSee Forums: Recent Posts en Sun, 22 Nov 2009 05:58:17 +0000 bitkahuna on "so many frustrations, where to begin..." http://community.acdsee.com/forums/topic/so-many-frustrations-where-to-begin#post-45404 Sun, 22 Nov 2009 03:28:08 +0000 bitkahuna 45404@http://community.acdsee.com/forums/ i have been a loyal and happy ACDSee user since version 5.0. this release is without question the WORST of them all.  i don't know whose 'workflow' it was modeled after, but i loathe it.  i am very close to uninstalling, eating the money i wasted, and going back to 2.5. specific complaints: i've told it to remember the last folder i was in when i exit and start next time.  ok, that works.  but does the folder view show the same folder as what the thumbnails are for?  no. worse, i CAN'T GET THERE.  this is on windows 7 and let's say the current folder was under my documents.  the folder tree shows 'Desktop' with my username under that, which is weird because there's no link to my user data on the desktop.  if i click that, nothing.  the only other way to find MY DOCUMENTS is to navigate to Computer, then c: then users, then my name, then documents, etc., OR i can open the 'libraries' (new win7 feature), go to documents, which (win 7 stupid feature shows public docs and personal docs).  but WHY DOESN'T ACDSee Pro 3 have the right folder open from the start? WHY, when i go to favorites view and click a favorite folder, does it STILL not navigate to that spot when i click the folders view? or how about editing with an external editor?  in all prior versions there was an icon on the toolbar for Edit with a drop down to pick a different editor.  where is that now?  in the MENU, Tools, External Editors, ... Each time I return to Crop an image in regardless of crop size I must click the size twice since the first showing eg: 3x2 does not crop to this ratio. </blockquote> I'm not sure what you mean here.  Are you talking about Develop mode or Edit mode?  What exactly are you trying to do?  I find the crop tool in Develop mode a *huge* improvement over what came before - I can crop one picture, copy that crop setting to as many other pictures as I want (to at least set a starting ratio and position) and then go into the other pictures individually to fine tun the crop region, *far* faster than was ever possible before. <blockquote> I hate having to scroll down a list just to crop, lighten, sharpen etc. </blockquote> Those tools should all be pretty readily accessible from Develop mdoe, and if you wish to make them even more so, you can collapse the tools you don't use as often.  But I do like the idea of a "custom" toobar where you can place your favorites! <blockquote> Why is there no way to deactivate the the saving of Original and Developed folders. This function to me may benefit the few but personally just cloggs up my Harddrive and cost me more time in having to delete. </blockquote> It's not the "few" that non-destructive editing benefits.  It is the single most important advance in image processing since the invention of the digital camera, and almost *everyone* can and should benefit from this.  I'd highly recommend spending some time learning just how amazingly powerful it is.  But FWIW, as I've mentioned elsewhere, for the sake people who have workflows that for whatever reason cannot take advantage of the incredible advantages of non-destructive editing, I do hope ACD listens to these requests to allow people to keep working in the older way as well. Marc Sabatella on "Compare images" http://community.acdsee.com/forums/topic/compare-images-3#post-45394 Sat, 21 Nov 2009 22:41:34 +0000 Marc Sabatella 45394@http://community.acdsee.com/forums/ I guess what I'm trying to figure out is, are these files actually corrupt or not?  If they are, then there is a bug in the batch set information facility.  If the files are not corrupt, there is a bug in the compare facility.  Either way, it's worth understanding.  I tried to run batch set information with the parameters you suggested on a couple of my own files, and failed to reproduce the problem.  Perhaps the fact that your files came originally came from a scanner is part of the issue?  Could you post a couple of pictures form before you ran batch set information?  If I (or anone else) can reproduce the problem, it's definitely worth submitting a support ticket. Also, FWIW, even if they were to respond here, they might not (yet) have anything productive to say beyond "we hear you and are taking this under due consideration".  But assuming some of you has already reported the issue to support, then you don't really need a response here to know that they are aware this an issue for some of you and are taking it under consideration - if it's been reported as a support ticket, then the issue *has* been logged and *is* being considered. Marc Sabatella on "Live help??" http://community.acdsee.com/forums/topic/live-help#post-45391 Sat, 21 Nov 2009 22:24:38 +0000 Marc Sabatella 45391@http://community.acdsee.com/forums/ I don't remember which threads I've posted my suggestions in, but I'm not sure they are relevant at this point, as they pretty much relied on still being able to run the beta.  You'd have had to have been following my suggestions all along in order for them to work - you won't be able to go in now and make them work, unless perhaps you can still get the beta to run (maybe by setting your clock back and running while not connected to the Internet).  Otherwise, the best I can suggest at this point is to try simply copying your db folder from the beta to the product (got to tools-options-database to find its location) and hoping for the best. Then again with this amount of troubles I could well understand their Support Department is having difficulties in coping with all disappointed customers. Maybe I expressed myself not clearly (English is not my native tongue) but when I spoke of compensation I did not expect them to pay me anything. It would just be fair to compensate me for spending 60 euros (only in June 2009) on 2.5, which was not working properly in XP and now is not working properly in Windows 7, while there is a new upgrade with Support like 3.0 Well, hopefully I'm just impatient and expecting my answer way to quickly, considering pigeons ten days is not that bad and there is a lot of water between Canada and Europe. I am ready to upgrade to Elements 8. 1. I am using a netbook with a screen resolution of 1024 x 576 and while the image areas seem to be OK, the "import image" screen does not display right. This is a BIG problem. 2. While maybe minor, the fact that I can not email ACDsee directly is a problem too. Having to depend on a forum for help is not the way to market a product. I don't do business with people I can not interact with. Am I all wet here? The bug is in reading and handling these metadata in ACDSee 3. My workflow: setting database date, batch setting EXIF date/time original maped to datebase date and date/time digitized maped to file properties: created date. All my saved workspaces are there. And I can load them. And the loading works. To test that I have created different workspaces. All is loaded fine except for the view window. I've changed my hard disk, I've copied all my images (more on 30.000) in the new hard disk, into the same position, but now the database says me to not find my images, because they are on another volume. (and excluding the drive doesn't remove or stop the db...) WDM01 on "Pro Beta 1-1-148 on Snow Leopard application not responding" http://community.acdsee.com/forums/topic/pro-beta-1-1-148-on-snow-leopard-application-not-responding#post-45368 Sat, 21 Nov 2009 03:05:25 +0000 WDM01 45368@http://community.acdsee.com/forums/ I have it working on snow leopard but it is very limited.  No editing or printing.  Now in Iphoto I have problem in that files show in thumbs but have gone away when selecting to view, edit or print.  What to do?  Wait for a version that does these things or pull images back from a backup on another drive, I don't know.  I think I'll wait and see what ACDSee does.   Youthere2 on "Using Pro 3 on two computers" http://community.acdsee.com/forums/topic/using-pro-3-on-two-computers#post-45367 Sat, 21 Nov 2009 02:31:12 +0000 Youthere2 45367@http://community.acdsee.com/forums/ I'm about to delve into Pro 3 and I've got about 12,000 images to organize.  I generally work on one desktop at home and a laptop at work and travel.  Is there a simple way I can install ACDSEE on both computers and begin to tag my images with keywords but still keep the data on both computers syncronized?  I keep all my images on both computers and when I upload new images they go on both computers as well as a backup copy (all on hard drives).  Being able to organize my work on both computers would mean tha no matter where I am I can get some work done...obviously my biggest concern is in keeping everything in sync. I agree, BTW, none of this should be necessary.  And it's possible there was another way around your initial problem.  I suggested this approach only because it usually work, but then I don't use newlines in my fields.
