I've just moved to mac for a couple of months now and I am really happy about it being a pc user since the 80's. One of the program I really missed though is ACDSee! I just downloaded ACDSee Beta and I almost dried when I saw it... :-) A lot of things I love to see in ACDSee for mac are already on this thread... after downloading, the ACDSee beta for mac seems to miss this one.

Pleas bear with me if someone already requested this but would it be hard to insert a "Get Info" menu when you right click an image? or better yet, is there a way to show the "size" of the image underneath it's name? I work with so many images and often times, with just one look at the collection, I want to see which ones are hi-res and which one is really small...

Right now, to see the physical dimension of your image is to right click, show the file in finder, (if you set your "Show View Option" to "show item info", you're in luck) right click the file so you can see the dimension of your image...

I am new here so please pardon the long note...

Cheers All!

I'd really like to be able to search and scroll through my sub folders without having to click on each individual sub folder. (perhaps using the scroll wheel?) I am pretty sure this was a feature of the PC Pro version, but I no longer have a PC, so I can't check.

I do digital scrapbooking and like this program for tagging and organizing my digital supplies, separately from my photos. I want to see all the pieces to a digital kit without having to click so many times, even if they are separated into subfolders. I am happy to click on the main folder.

Hi Acdsee,

Thanks for starting Acdsee for Mac. For years I've been a very satisfied user of ACDsee 5.0.

So much that no new programms have exceeded this excellent browser and viewer setup for me so far. A few days ago I downloaded the new Mac version for the first time.

This new Acdsee for Mac has high potential for me !! Please keep going.

Off course I compared Acdsee for Mac, with my good old Acdsee 5.0. Are you ready to take the following notes? I am sure i mention some items double so sorry for that. I have mentioned the improvements as well as the positive points.

Improvements: (On order of priority)

- Preview pane only floating available. Fixed sometimes works so much nicer.

- Sort function for thumbs not avilable in manage mode? Needed !

- Zoom in (with mouse or +) not possible in full screen mode.

- No "change timestamp" function.

- No right click possibility for properties and organise panels.

- No clickable overlay icon for exif information.

- No extra information then filename below thumbnail. Size and date would be nice.

- No zoom percentage visible in view mode (and full screen mode).

- No " find duplicates" function.

- No file generate listing.

Very positive:

- Building speed of thumbs !

- Keeping the filedate intact after rating.

- Thumbnails possibilities (size and borders and position). Keep that !

- Batch button. (With its functions)

- Clear white border on selected thumbnail.

- Scrolling with mouse wheel in full screen mode!

- Rotate option in right click menu.

Thanks for now and I sincerely hope Acdsee will improve the Mac version towards
what I like. It would be the first Good picture browser for Mac (in my opinion then)

Kind regards,

Hello!

May be I do not understand something, but WHY DON'T YOU JUST SIMPLY MAKE ACDSEE for MAC same as you did for Windows? I'm using ACDSee since 1999 on my Win Desctop and I love it... I can't imagine picture managing on PC without AcdSee... It was sad to discover that Mac version is so weak, when I bought my MacBook and was looking for good image viewer for it.

I am a Mac user since 2004 and love this plattform. Since I communicate this quite openly I have an increasing number of friends / family members / co-workers that have made or have tried to make the switch as well. For many of them the biggest problem was the Finder. I never noticed how different it was from the explorer in Windows but I am beginning to get the problems related to it (like that I am not able to create a folder within a tree structure, no Cut and Paste of files, no tree on the left, details on the right mode). This makes it really hard for beginners to do the most simple of processes. No - here comes ACDSee - another gripe my friends had : where is my ACDSee!!! :) They all love ACDSee. With the Mac version of the software both the Finder and no-ACDSee problem goes away. Brilliant! Thank you guys, for investing into this plattform!!!

Testing the software I noted a couple of things that we would find really cool to be included in the final version:

1) Keep the "Mac-Unlike" feature of being able to create new folders within the tree structure! This makes ACDSee a file browser alternative

2) In windows when I double-click on an image I can set ACDSee to enter full-screen mode and let me view my images by going up and down with the page-up page-down buttons. In the Mac version it enters the "View-Mode". Could you give us the windows option as well? As fun as Quicklook might be, it's nowhere as usefull as double-clicking on an image and going fullscreen _and_ being able to the next images afterwards. That ability is given in iPhoto but when you work with removable media you don't want to import everything into iPhoto just to check out pictures.

3) We have a Windows/Mac mixed environment with a Win2003 Server in our company. ACDSee has some severe problem with accessing pictures stored on network drives. (Crashes, endless spinning beachballs, etc. (it occasionally works as well))

4) The Selection Basket. Most usefull ACDSee tool ever. Please? :)

I am looking forward to the next Betas. Love that you fixed the Snow-Leopard bug!

Cheers,

I have been using AcdSee v8 a lot when I had a PC to modify my pictures, and I found one feature particularly useful: the fact that in the properties panel, I could modify some of the data, like the creation and modification date of the pictures. Since I usually sort them by date, this is something important for me. However, on the Mac version, this feature isn't available, which is a pity. Nor are we given the possibility to change some basic info in the Exif data, like in the Windows version.

Something I would also greatly appreciate in AcdSee for Mac would be the possibility to rearrange the pictures in the folder by dragging and dropping them... Now I can just sort them by name, which I find very annoying...

Do you plan on improving these features later on...?

Thanks anyway for delveloping this program for Mac!

hi there.

the title virtually speaks for itself. the full screen mode doesn't allow for customizable zoom, or not from what i've found anyways. and i didn't come across this topic in the forum on the search bar, so i'm not sure if people have or have not asked this yet.

also on a different note is there anyway for the shortcuts to be cmd+"insert button" rather than cmd+opt/alt+"insert button" or will this change cause a problem with other short cut functions. because having to alt as well was a bit annoying. although this is a very minor issue and wouldn't affect my decision in buying this product when a full release comes out.

Where do you see ACDSee Pro fitting in with the other Mac photo organizers and editors? I am not including iPhoto and Picasa as they do not have full metadata and image editing features.

The feature set of the Windows version appears to be similar to those of Lightroom and Aperture. Is it the goal of your developers to compete with those applications. I for one, hope it is.

If you can sell ACDSee for the same price, or lower, as the Windows Pro version, you will also undercut the Apple and Adobe prices and could soon get a substantial market share. Aperture users are upset with Apple for lack of updates and Adobe charges an arm and a leg for their application.

If you are not going to match the features of Aperture or Lightroom, what features will not be included?

It is increasingly common for cameras to save a RAW and JPEG version of the same shot. Some image viewers are able to identify that and show the image as a single file in the viewer. The benefit is twofold:

1) Any labels, categories, keywords, etc are added to the two formats simultaneously

2) It makes scrolling through images faster since it does not show the same image twice (JPEG and then RAW)

This would be a nice feature to have

I am one of those looking to change from a PC user to a Mac user. I was very happy to hear that ACDSee is building photomanager for Mac now. One of the reasons being stuck to PC is that I've got a huge archive of pictures maintained under ACDSee Photomanager 2009 (albums, keywords, text, ....).

Have you considered adding (or is there already) a conversion tool from PC based ACDSee data to Mac based ACDSee data?

I have been a user of ACDsee 7 for four years. For me it has made me survive with managing my growing image archive. Since I have now switched from PC to Mac I am looking forward to the relase of the Mac version of ACDsee.

Comparing this beta with ACDSee 7 there are a number of things I use today that seems to be missing:

Batch copy to and from EXIF meta data.

The calendar view in the Manage workspace.

Hopefully this is something that will be added to later betas and included part of the release.

Is there a list of planned features for the relase?

Most of my work is done in Corel Painter. In their most recent version (11), the development team has, for some reason, done away with thumbnails and image previews. Well, there is a large preview that is accessible only through QuickLook, but that, of course, does nothing for the generic icons. And it can take as long as 30 seconds to load, so it's not a very efficient solution. I know that RIFF is a proprietary format, but is it conceivable to use that QuickLook preview to create a thumbnail icon for a file?

I have been looking for some time to replace my aging copy of iView Media Pro 2.x. ACDSee is intriguing and over the next few weeks (if the beta is active that long) I hope to see how the features compare. Is there a rough draft of a manual or user guide floating around anywhere?

Thanks.
