I've just read a New York Times review of the new Snow Leopard OS for Mac, and upgrading seems to be a no-brainer. EXCEPT they mention that a bunch of third party programs won't run on Snow Leopard. Since Canvas is a core part of what I do every day, this is making me a wee bit cautious about the upgrade. If you've tried Snow Leopard and Canvas X on a Mac, please let me know about your experience.

Hi,

This is a positive criticism. It is amazing how sometimes great products become crap. An example is the fantastic Canvas for Mac, which was awesome up to Canvas 3.5.6. Why? BECAUSE ITS INTERFACE WAS SECOND TO NONE. It was powewrful and flexible, yet utterly intuitive and easy to use. That is the genuine Mac way. The Mac look and feel. That is the Magic of the Mac world that Windows users cannot even imagine.

All the newer versions (Canvas 5 to the current version) are awful because they have horrible, cumbersome, anti-intuitive and anti-Mac interfaces. No wonder they were developed first for Windows and then ported to Mac (which is a serious mistake!).

So, no wander the Canvas 5 and later for Mac commercial performance was bad. We actually purchased a copy of all those versions to test them, but never used them. WE HATE THEM ALL.

ACD Systems, do you want to make Canvas the best selling Mac drawing application? That is easy: just bring back the fantastic Canvas 3.5.6 as a NATIVE application for Mactel (Mac with Intel) on Mac OS X 10.5.6. Of course, it should open seamlessly the Mac Canvas 3.5.6 files. No more. No less.

Better late than never. We will purchase a campus-wide license for our University.

Thanks.

A major weakness in Canvas since I have known it (7, 8, 9, X) is that you cannot flip and replicate with a choice of the point around which the flip is to occur.

For example, I wish to construct a butterfly (or any other symmetrical figure). I SHOULD be able to draw one side of it, then select a point in the bounding box around which it will flip, then replicate and flip the figure so that I now have the butterfly with both wings extended.

Instead, I have to duplicate the wing, THEN flip it, with no control over the pooint around which it flips (it always flips around the centre of the figure), THEN manually position it.

This is kind of silly in a program like Canvas which is so sophisticated in many other respects.

I should be able to carry out this replicate and flip routing just as I can the replicate and rotate or replicate and offset.

I must say hi Mr Winslow,

Captain, master-chef, promotech guru. Thank you for indicating the option offered to maccanvas users - get a new mac with intel and 10.5 and run Canvas 11 using Windows-running software.

Is this correct?

I wonder what the glitches are that you would prefer not to mention?

Very interested then, to hear from others who are running this set up.

How much adaptation to an MS system is needed, or how similar is it for Mac users?

Any problems opening old macCanvas docs.?

Canvas 9 runs in Snow Leopard on my iMac (2007), but performance quickly deteriorates until every action (like a mouse click on the page) causes a 10-20 second beachball. The only way to fix it is to reboot the Mac, after which performance is good again for a little while.

The Print and Save menu items have been disabled in Canvas X (925) running on my Intel MacBook Pro. I can open files but I can't print them or save changes. The File menu items "Save", "Save As...", "Print", etc. are disabled.

I don't use Canvas often, so I don't know when the change occurred, or its root cause. I want to be able to print Canvas files at the minimum, and I must confess that I still use Canvas X from time to time.
