When I open ACDSEE 2.4.3 in a folder with more than about 200 pictures, it seems to hangup for a minute or more. Even when it begins opening the thumbnails, it is very slow to open them, one at a time. My laptop is an HP, 1 year old, with Win XP sp2, Athlon 64 1.9Ghz, 2 gig memory. The HD is only about 40% used. Is there any way to decrese the startup time?

Hi All,

I have Acdsee Pro Photo Manager and Acdsee Photo Editor. I have consulted both help files but seem unable to find any reference to transparent or transparency .

So could please someone tell me how I make the white background of an image transparent. I would hate to ask my boss to ditch Acdsee abd go back to Fireworks. </forums.acdsystems.com/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

A member reports and I confirm that Pro2 shows dates differing (for me) by an hour (for the member there are, apparently greater differences).
I have tested these dates against one or two other apps AND against other ACD versions.
For me and I suspect some others, this would be a very significant bug.

If I view the same image ( ie sRGB Jpeg) in ACDSEE and PhotoShop on the same monitor, the ACDSEE version has higher contrast than the PhotoShop one. It seams like ASDSEE is adding saturation and or contrast which I do not want. I want to see the photo to look the same when I view it in PhotoShop or ASDSEE.

There are three options to resize images: resize (CNTRL-R) option in ACDsee Editor, Batch Resize, Batch Processor. In Editor and Batch Resize it is possible to define max values for width and height when reducing images keeping aspect ratio. Batch Processor works differently. You may define only one value (width or height). One may treat this as feature but for me it looks rather as bug (or who-knows-why different implementation). For example: if you want to resize images (h max=550 pixels, w max = 640 pixels) and you have images in portrait and landscape orientations you may easy resize them using "Batch Resize" but not using "Batch Processor".

As far as I can see, to resize, sharpen and ICC convert a batch, you have to do two steps. First, using the batch processing you can resize and sharpen. Then only in a second step can you ICC convert the new files. This means you have to resave jpegs, or save temporary tiff files, which is lossy / inefficient respectively. Why not include the ICC convert step in the batch processing tool itself?

Please help if you can. This has happened before and the tech people were able to talk me through it, but I cannot remember how. I believe one of my cards had a corrupt file on it and thus corrupted ACDSee. I think we went through Control panel to a folder and changed a name and it worked. I am not quite sure though. Anyone have a solution? Very much appreciated.

When I want to make several screenshots, with the fourth, I got an error message after pressing the hot key: "screen capture failed". I found out that, after closing ACDSee and immediately opening it again (nothing else is changed), I can make three screenshots again. But with the fourth, I once again get the error message. Some buffer overflow or something like that?

I'm using the batch convert file format function. I select jpeg, then tell to save in source file (also tried a separate folder), tell it to replace existing files, preserve last modified dates, preserve metadata, preserve database info, convert all pages of any selected multi-page images, and for the output choice, to split.

acdsee 2 pro file fragmentation

ACDsee thumbnail file fragmentation and how to solve it

I see both thumb1 thumb2 or thumbs1 thumbs2 becoming 1 GB file size and 5000 fragments. This interferes with rendering images and speed of using the resulting documents. The rich text files are often over 2500 fragments. All activity becomes slow quickly. Is there any solution to the apparent problem other than continually defragmenting defragmentation which also takes much time? Some questions in forums on the subject seem raised but not answered. Such as does a separate partition help? Can a solid state drive be used for more speed? Does the version 2.5 [which seems to be a set of updates more than an upgrade] overcome the issue? It can take over a minute to render a new page with shadows of the old page still lingering as visible edges.

Is there a place to post a question regarding this problem on something like support.acdsee.com/ticket which I was told by pre-sales for version ACDsee Pro 3.0 to go but cannot find? Is there just an email to ACDsee in a support question? I have it happening on all 3 of my computers. I have changed servers from Linux to Windows XP peer-to-peer and the problem is the same, so more likely to be with ACDsee than with where I stored the artwork.

How do I email or chat or speak with tech support on ACDsee for Pro 2.0 or 2.5 or 3.0?

Without realizing it, I happened to rename a file in a directory to the same name as another file in that directory and AcdSee overwrote the second file with the first file without any kind of warning. I found that if "Confirm read-only rename and delete" is checked, AcdSee will warn and suggest to rename it, but not if it isn't checked.

How does that option have anything to do with warning about overwriting a file by renaming another one?

None of the files were read-only to begin with. It isn't a display problem because I looked in the directory with Windows Explorer and the file I renamed actually overwrote the existing file with the same name.

In large directories this is a serious problem, because you can't see all the file names.

I've found in Vista that none of the confirmations work as they're supposed to anyway. I have "Confirm read-only rename and delete" unchecked and am still prompted for each deletion of read-only files during the duplicate check function. Yet when I delete a folder or file, I'm not prompted even though those are checked.

I learned a hard lesson this week, even after treading very carefully and running trials for batch processing on 2 or 3 files.
I was using Batch RAW processing.

I'd individually processed about 70 CR2 files (Canon RAW format).
I was looking for a batch way to save these out or export them as jpgs.

In the batch RAW processing dialogue you have either to use an existing processing preset or revert the raw processing.
You can choose Last Used as your preset.
It seems you can't just batch save out /export using this tool with re or de-porcessing your RAW files.

I didn't need to process my RAW files, I only wanted to save them out / export them.

I experimented to see what the Last Used preset did to 2 or 3 of my RAW files and whether the batch processor would save out as I hoped. As it happened, my Last Used had no noticeable effect on my trial files.

I, admittedly optimistically, interpreted Last Used therefore meant that the last processing session I'd done on each RAW file would be reflected in its respective new output file.

But I was wrong. As someone more cautious than myself might have feared, the batch RAW processing applied the processing done during my last RAW processing session on one file to all my files before outputting them. Thus all my individual processing was lost when I ran the batch process.

May I suggest two interface and one system improvement to make this more user-friendly?
1. Provide a tool to batch output raw files to another file format without having to re- or de-process them.
2. Provide a timely health warning for using this tool in its current form.
3. Backup the 'EDL' ie 'process data' for each RAW file immediately ahead of running a batch process to make it reversible.

There's something that's been driving me crazy when I activate the Search pane, and add Properties to search for. When I click in the fields to edit the property values (e.g. change "is" to "contains", or type a value in the "<Click to set>" field, the field gets focus momentarily, then immediately loses it, and I can't select the dropdown, or type into the field. I have to click the field a dozen or so times, moving the mouse slightly, and maybe trying to hit a key right away, and finally the focus sticks, and I can set the field.

This was infuriating me, but I somehow found a cause, and solution. I have my Windows Explorer Folder Options set to "Single click to open an item", rather than the default double-click. I realise I'm practically the only one on the planet that uses this option, but I prefer it, because I hate double clicking (I read somewhere that the rapid timing and slight uncertainty of the action causes subtle mental stress). Strange that this option should affect ACDSee, but it does. If I change the Explorer option to "Double click to open an item", and maybe restart ACDSee, can't remember, the Search Properties fields behave as expected.

I didn't like this workaround, so I tried something else. Ctrl-click those fields instead of normal clicking them. That also works, the focus sticks.
