Marc - Wouldn't it make sense for you, as Moderator, or someone in an official capacity, to create and maintain a "Known Bugs List"? Perhaps even a "Requested Enhancements List" as well?

I'd hope someone within ACD is doing that. There is also a moderator's forum, where moderators will sometimes post about defects, including pointers to posts made by others here, if we see something we think might get missed (because defects reported here often generate a lot of discussion, making it hard to quickly smik through lookng for actual reported defects. So to some extent, what you are describing happens already. But I don't think anyone not working for ACD should have the responsibility of doing this officially, making sure every defect is logged, etc. We just have to trust that someone at ACD has that job and is doing their best.

the Developers not getting the message about bugs found by Beta testing is really a crying shame. This needs to be fixed.

Well, we don't *know* the developers didn't get the message on this - might have just missed the cut. I know it becomes increasingly difficult to make changes to a product the closer it gets to release; only total showstopper data-destroying defects get fixed in the last week or two, in my experience. Anyhow, I'm sure the process can be improved, and I can only hope people at ACD are trying to do so.

Developers wouldn't miss this kind of stuff unless they simply didn't know about it. It's becoming increasingly apparent to me (quoting Strother Martin from Cool Hand Luke) that "What we've got here is failure to communicate".

To answer if I actually ran the rename, no I did not. Since I was trying to rename a couple hundred files I didn't want to have them renamed incorrectly, even though I am not using it for any type of production.... :)

Bill - I too had noticed the status bar issue months ago, but AFAIK nobody has bothered to report it until this very post by Paulgul yesterday... too late to be fixed in this release. Hopefully they'll put it on the list for next time.

By the way, I use the new Develop Crop tool all the time and really like it. Of course I'd like to see a couple of small improvements; maybe I'll write them up someday.

Marc - As a Moderator, do you understand the process by which bugs found by the Beta Testers actually get to the Developers? Is there an official database or list of the known programming errors awaiting correction?

The Crop Bug (wrong dimensions on thumbnails) is not new. And, it's the kind of silly error that I'm sure the Developers would have fixed. I'm starting to believe that there must be a communications breakdown going here. Can you shed any light on this?

The rename templates *are* saved, but the interface caught me by surprise at first, too. You first hit the Edit button on the import dialog, then the New button on the rename dialog, give the new so far empty) template a name, then enter the template itself, then hit OK. There is no "save" - simply hitting OK saves the new template, as well as making it the currently selected template back in the Import dialog.

Haa, that was me causing the problem, I thought that icon was to select the cropping tool, I've been clicking on it and without realizing it was changing the format.

For some reason I always like to think about what size I'm cropping too, but what I was getting at in my fisrt post was that after cropping the status bar at the bottom still shows the original image size and not the new size - just thought that was a bit strange.

Anyway thanks for your help Marc.

I'm not sure if its me, but the crop tool within the develop modules doesn't seem to work correctly. If I have an image in landscape (it doesn't matter if its jpeg or raw) and I try to crop it with the constrain proportions box ticked and original selected in the drop down box the program trys to crop in portrait mode and likewise if a portrait image is selected it crops in landscape.

I guess I never think of cropping as being a way to achieve a particular size, but rather, a way to get the composition I want. If I want a specific size, I use resize. But sure, feedback on the dimensions might be useful occasionally.

Paulgul - It's not you - I get the same results. The crop tool has bugs. AND, they were found and reported some time ago. This is just one of the reasons why I was so angry when I installed the production release and found that many previously reported programming errors had not been fixed.

In it's current state, Pro 3.0 Build 355 is simply not usable in a production environment (in my opinion). The crop bug is a perfect example. However, I'm hoping that the more serious of the remaining bugs will be fixed in a subsequent Build before the Public Release. That's why I called this release "Beta 3". We'll see.

Pretty much what the topic title says: everytime I use the Import function, I have to re-enter my custom naming scheme. ACDSee does save the import settings (destination and backup folders, mostly), but not the naming scheme.

I try saving it in the Rename Templates popup, but the newly created template never shows up in the pulldown with the standard templates later.

Also, there seems to be some strange behaviour giving a message "You cannot modify a system rename template." This when I just created a new one using the provided 'new' button. And while I'm at it, why a 'new' button here, and a 'save' button in the screen before next to the 'choose import settings' and 'organize settings' pulldowns? I feel a bit stupid now.

Obviously, this is a bit annoying. :)
