using pro 2.5, have not changed anything in setup since first installing it. last month it started a problem, I use 'import' to read files from my card, and write my copyright into into exif/iptc while importing. it now reads the card, allows me to select which photos to import, everything normal, but when I click import, it FLIES thru the list of photos, ends and then gives me the error message: "Unable to import file " and then the path to the file. I have tried reading from my card, from CD, from another folder on the drive, always the same thing.

I have tried optimizing the database, everything short of uninstalling and reinstalling pro 2.5. anyone else run into this? currently I'm having to transfer images to disk using the operating system, and then use batch processing to write exif/iptc data.

I should add that when I try to import, I am having the importer create a new subfolder based on todays date. that subfolder IS being created properly, it just will not transfer the image files. it reads them because it pulls up the filenames and thumbnails correctly, it just wont transfer them.

Is anyone using ACDSee Pro 2.5 with the full release of Windows 7?

I can't remember which version of ACDSee I was using when the final version of Windows Vista was released, but it was several months before ACDSee had a version that would work in Vista. I wound up having to reformat my hard drive and go back to Windows XP to have ACDSee working again. I never did get around to reinstalling Vista and have been quite happy with XP in any case.

I do want to upgrade to Windows 7, but not if ACDSee won't work. If there is any support info on Windows 7 on the ACDSee website,

Dear Everyone, (applies to both Home and Pro versions)

For years we have been using the wonderful ACDSee Products. I personally like them very much and will continue to use them. BUT: I think the time to deal with the database issues is long overdue.

IMHO: After a clean install and running the catalogue on a few folders, you immediately get tens of thousands of file fragments on the hard disk from the huge ACD Database files. I keep the folders on a small "Temp" partition to avoid messing up my system drive all the time, but still the defrag is a nuisance. This is just asking for trouble. It can not work reliably in the long run. Home or pro users all have tons of images and subsequently the database is always a problem, because of the technical aspects.

My humble suggestion: MOVE IT ! Outsource it to a real DBMS or at least provide us with an option to ODBC connect it. Then we can use whatever DMBS server we have in the company, or use a small footprint locally run DBMS. Free ones are available too.

My prediction: would be a huge improvement. Speed, reliability, modularity, scalability. Data independece. Not to speak about sharing the database and assets in a corporate network.

That would be my ACDDream See or Pro. I would rather pay a hundred more bucks for the thing and have peace of mind than this. Please. Please.

Everyone: join me and vote for a REAL database in ACDSee. ACDSee people: cheers !

Kind Regards

Hi Everbody,

Im using ACDSee 2.5 and Windows 7.

I would like to organize also my videos with ACDSee. The problem is, I have a JVC-Camcorder which produces files in .mod format. Unfortunatly its noch possible to see them inside ACDSee, never mind a thumbnail. I pretty sure on my old computer I could see them.

Im not very familiar with videostuff, so I dont know what is the reason. Do I need codecs (whatever the hell this is) or is there something else I can do?

Thanks for help

ACDSee 2.5 crashes every time I import photos from my camera cards, whether SD or CF. Sometimes it crashes near the start of the process, sometimes near the end, but it never gets to the end. The programme freezes and I have to end the process using task manager and resort to using Lightshop to import the photos. If I wanted to use Lightshop I would have started with that!

I presume it must be the buffer filling or something. There seems to be plenty of room on all my hard disks. Any ideas?

I have all versions of ACDSee since the Classic.I am a plastic surgeon and accurate time identification of photos is paramount. I use EXIF:Image:Date/time original in my thumbnail info.

All was nice and fine until ACDSee Pro 2.0 and subsequent builds. My original times changed all over the place. Each time a picture was processed in Photoshop CS3 the time was off by hours or days.

I went back to ACDSee Pro and all was fine. Recently I received a complimentary ACDSee 2.5 upgrade build 363. I love the upgrade and it's speed. Unfortunately if I send any photo to Photoshop CS3 or Photoshop CS4 and then save it under the same name or another name the EXIF:Image:Date/time original shifts back by one hour.

When I open the same folder in Adobe Bridge, Adobe Lightroom 2.3 or in ACDSee Pro the timings show correctly. I use an Alienware workstation computer; Windows XP Pro operating system.

I have just reverted back to my ACDSee Pro. It makes me sad that I have now to rely more and more on Adobe Bridge instead on my favorite ACDSee.

Tell me if there will be another build that could correct this, or if at least ACDSee Pro 3.0 will.

Thank you, A. Gaon MD

Hi - I'm using ACDSee Pro 2.5 to organize a very large number of old photos, most of which have been scanned in. I want to set dates on those where I can. In most cases I do not know an exact date. Sometimes I might know a year, or approx year range, sometimes I might know that a holiday was taken in a given month of a year but not the date etc.

Is there any way in ACDSee Pro 2.5 to handle such partial dates? As far as I can see, the Organize pane requires completely specified dates which I dont have. I dont want to have to enter, say, 1 Jan 1965 for a photo I know was taken sometime in 1965. I'd like to do as you can with genorlogy programs, enter a date such as 'about 1965' or say 'April 1965' - and yet also have the program use these dates for chronological sorting.

Thanks for any help/advice.

I currently print using Photoshop Elements as this is giving me the most accurate colour management (although most processing is done via ACDSee and another program - Serif's PhotoPlus 10 so that I can use a plug-in).

I cannot get an accurate print from ACDSee.

For example, a monochrome picture with a (very) slight warmth added with a sepia tone shows very much the same on screen in ACDSee (2.5 and 3.0 Beta). Printed via PSE using a dedicated profile the result is very close to the screen image. Printed from ACDSee the print has a much stronger tone, brown verging on pink/magenta.

The printer is a Canon i965 and I am using the same printer settings in both instances. The monitor is calibrated.

Black & White is always trickier to get right, but is anyone getting a successful match via ACDSee? Am I missing something?

I have installed/ reinstalled this several times. Right after installation it will run, but shortly thereafter nothing clicking icon does nothing. I see in the boards this is not a new problem, has a solution been found. I also have version 9 on the machine which works fine except for the %updating in lower right that always seems to be using all my cpu. My machine is Running XP Pro service pack 2. I am very hesitant to uninstall Ver9 unless I can verify this is the problem as I use it all the time. Any help would be appreciated.

Alas neither DNG or PEF files currently work in version 2.5 and this is sad for me as since I got the K7 I can only process JPEGs unless of course I upgrade to version 3 where I can at least use the DNG files but not yet the PEFs. It is odd that 2.5 does not recognise DNGs when taken with the K7. As Marc said in an earlier post - we should contact ACDSee directly on these matters and I would do so if only I could find a link on this website to do so. The earlier post referred to a link - I think at the top of the page - but I can not see one!

Today I get the message that the "Selected Location Can't Be Found" when I try to do a new backup, not updating an existing bu. I always do a new backup, so this is new. I did a search on the forum and see that this problem was noted by someone else, but there was no answer as to a solution. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the program, created a new backup location, but still have the issue. I can see the location in the folder view, so I know some part of the program knows the location is there...any ideas?
